Cult of Mara

First Game

Introduction:
A year ago, the three of you moved into the town of Pranton. The Cult of Mara had already set up a few cells but you will only have contact with “Jacob.” As Tieflings, you were already seen as touched by Mara and special. Each of you has spent the last year blending into the city scene and making important connections.

Paul has eared an apprenticeship with the Peaceful Repose Cemetery. The owner gave him a small shed to use for his home. He works as a grounds keeper but they are giving him more training and he is learning about his own special magic. Paul has never had official tutelage in necromancy but his natural aptitude was strong enough that his magic has manifested without the need for books and study. Recently, he even managed to build his very own undead minion, Boner. Each day it seems to be building a will of it’s own as well as a personality. The last time Paul left Boner alone for the day, he came home to find an eight-foot hole in the center of his floor.

Darel has finished his training with the Rose District Guard and is now a patrolman for the city. In just a short year, he has already managed to catch a few criminals and has earned one of two accommodations. An elderly land lady rented a room above the shop to the young lawman.

Maya used her natural skills to join the assassin’s guild. Her initiation consisted of killing a particularly troublesome guard in the Rose District which opened a position for Darel to fill. During the day, Maya works as a journeyman apothacarian for Mr. Philbert. During her first mission, she used a young beggar boy, “Boy” as a distraction and the boy has followed here around ever since. He has worked as a cut purse and beggar but he wishes to earn his sash and become an assassin some day.

Plot:
- Fools have been defacing Kalis’s temples around town. Some speculate the need for a bloody purge of possible Mara Supporters.
o Gathering information in the Diamond District uncovers a small group of youths. They are led by an angry Tiefling. The group wasted no time in catching them in the act and devastated them.
- A meteorite hit north of the city, many are talking of going and looking for it. You all saw the fall and felt like it was a gift from Mara.
o The meteorite landed somewhere to the north. If they ask Mara for guidance, they will find it quickly. Or they can hire a guide to help them search. The group decided to hire a guide. They ran into a Kalis priest and his two guards when they came across the meteorite. They quickly killed them and took the meteorite. A dream told them to leave the meteorite in the sewers of the town.
- Grave robbers have struck throughout the city and it is only natural that the Peaceful Repose could be next.
o The grave robber was just Boner. He has been eating old corpses.

Game Two 1 Month Later

- Started with three rolls for wages. They added the total with their skill and the 10s place equaled the gold they earned while the ones equaled their silver gains.
- Boner has stopped grave robbing for now. He has also learned to say yes and no but he doesn’t seem to understand how to use them.
- Jacob suggested creating some hideouts in town as well as outside of town.
o The group ventured out into the forest after Paul started to feel like Mara wanted them to go. They quickly found a tunnel guarded by goblins. After a short discussion, they learned that the goblins were guarding a portal for “Tara.” They figured out how to open the portal by typing out MARA in the Infernal Runes that covered the portal. Inside they found one of the few remaining temples of Mara. They also found three magical kukri and some books that imbued them each with different knowledge. The last great find was a book of Mara’s ancient rituals. Now they have a great hideout.
- Maya had learned of a secret tunnel from the assassin’s guild HQ to the forest. It will cost 10 gold for non-guild members or people acting on non-guild business.
- Current rumors include a possible dragon sighting outside of the castle, something is moving through the sewers and that undead walk the streets at night.
- The assassins guild has a contract set for a Mr. Thomas of the Apple District. It will earn 50 gold. The contract was setup by Thomas himself (diplomacy 15 to find out). Gather info 15 to find out Thomas is a merchant who donates a lot to the Church of Kalis.
o Maya took the contract and did a little info gathering. She posed as a servant and struck up a conversation with one of Thomas’ men. She learned of the new 5 mastiffs and came up with a plan to poison them. A poisoned slab of beef took care of 4/5 of the dogs. She then climbed over the wall to open the gates for the rest of the party. After a difficult fight with the one remaining dog, she managed to reunite with the party. The sleeping dogs were disposed of and the group broke into the kitchen. Maya attempted to lure a guard into the kitchen but he called for help. Four guards surrounded the party but they were able to kill them quickly. Quickly they found Thomas and killed the crazy merchant.
